As someone who is interested in all aspects of the older population, New York seems to be the hub for endless opportunities. So, I am here putting my best foot forward; offering my expertise, breadth of knowledge and charisma to places that are innovative and at the forefront of this emerging (well, already emerged) aging population and I hope they take me.
I said emerging. That's right. Older adults today are not the same as they use to be back in the day and we can't treat them the way we use to either. They are "emerging" because their contributions are different--they are useful and inspiring leaders that we can learn from. Must learn from. They've seen it all.
Time and time again I've been told that "we need more people like [me]." It's true. We do. The number of gerontologists, geriatric physicians and support workers are tiny and the weight of the number of older adults will crunch us. Pound us. That's why I want to be in a position where I can educate, train and help older adults, care givers and organizations that provide services and resources to older adults to make sure we are doing the right things--answering the varied needs of our older contemporaries and pressuring change when needed--especially in political land. I am ready for the arm wrestle--me (with the millions of older people) against their politically weak arm--we will weigh them down. I am up for the challenge.
ha, wish me luck. There is a lot of good stuff here and I want to be utilized. Badly.
